Get “knotty” this holiday season! These fun twists are a play on the viral Nutella® Knots, but now you can skip the nutty spread for a more allergen-friendly version. This recipe is all about trusting the process—some of the mix will fall out when you twist the dough, but don’t start spiraling. You can sprinkle it on top of your pastries before baking to share the sweet, caramelized love.
- Preheat oven to 400° F. Line Sheet Pan with Sheet Pan Liner.
- Roll out puff pastry. Brush melted butter over one side of each sheet of puff pastry. Over one sheet, evenly sprinkle mix all the way to the edges.
- Place the other sheet of puff pastry over top the filling (buttered side down), lining up the edges as best you can. Press down.
- Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the pastry into 12 thin strips. Grip the ends of each strip with your fingers and twist the two pieces together. Then, wrap the twisted strip around itself to form a spiral pinwheel. As you twist and roll each pastry strip, some of the filling will fall out—this is OK! Arrange knots on pan, then sprinkle with excess filling.
- In a small bowl, whisk together egg and water. Brush pastries with egg wash (discard any leftover wash). Bake 28–30 min, or until puffed and the colour is a deep golden brown. Let cool. Serve warm or at room temperature.
